I was walking through The Factory in Franklin yesterday and ran across Karmel Skillington now located in a booth space straight out of a gorgeous horse barn. 1. How does the process work, and what’s the first step?
Every project begins with a design conversation. Once you reach out, we’ll review what you’re looking to create, your space, inspiration images, timeline, and budget range. From there, we’ll confirm alignment and move into design and material selection.
Because our work is fully custom, nothing is pulled “off the shelf” — each piece is developed specifically for your home.
2. What materials do you use? Can we choose our own?
Yes. We work primarily with premium hardwoods such as white oak, walnut, chestnut, mahogany’s and select reclaimed woods, chosen for both beauty and longevity. Material selection is a collaborative part of the process, and we’ll guide you toward options that fit the design, function, and finish you’re after. When appropriate, clients are welcome to see and approve materials before fabrication begins.
3. What types of pieces do you build?
We specialize in high-end, furniture-grade custom work, including:
Dining tables, beds, vanities, bench seating, coffee tables, bookcases, desks, wood countertops, and select architectural elements.
Our focus is on statement pieces and integrated work rather than mass cabinetry or production kitchens. If you’re unsure whether your project is a fit, just ask — we’ll be honest.

All projects are quoted individually based on scale, materials, and complexity. Because everything is custom and built by hand, pricing reflects the time, craftsmanship, and materials involved.
Projects are typically secured with a deposit to begin design and scheduling, with remaining payments structured based on project milestones.
5. How long does a custom piece take to build?
Timelines vary by project, but most custom pieces take several weeks from design approval to completion. Lead times depend on complexity, material availability, and current shop schedule. We’ll discuss realistic timing up front so expectations are clear before work begins.
